Research article on manual fluid balance charting published
The quality of fluid balance charting for patients is inadequate, according to most research studies on the subject.
This is the conclusion of the review of articles conducted by PhD student Lisbeth Leinum. The study has been published in the medical journal The BMJ.
Monitoring fluid balance is crucial for patients’ health, and accurate recording of fluid balance is therefore important. PhD student Lisbeth Leinum systematically reviewed studies on the quality of fluid balance monitoring carried out in medical, surgical, and intensive care departments. The studies showed that many of the fluid balance charts were incompletely filled out, contained calculation errors, and were inaccurate. Lisbeth Leinum, together with co-authors, has published the study in The BMJ.
